Another process step that post-fired ceramics may require is
glazing. Glazing parts eases removal of unwanted residue. For
instance, spark plugs and other insulators are glazed to reduce
areas of potential arcing in high voltage environments.
Essentially, the glazing process involves dipping, brushing or
spraying a glass coating onto the surface of the fired ceramic. The
ceramic must then be fired again at 1,500º F to 2,700º F to sinter
the glazed coating.
