1. The applicable escalator refurbishment task
Package 16VEC-mod-01 is for 506 / 510 escalator overhaul to replace drive machine type
16VEC-RH which was a developed in the 1980s and discontinued in the
late 2000s. Conduct this package is to use a modern substitute
machine for replacement.
2. Technical solution
The existing latest design machine with its footprint the same as
the original 16VEC_RH size is not available in the market. In
other words, there is no machine that can be one to one replace the
16VEC-RH machine simply. Our technical solution is to design an
adapter plate for new machine supporting and fix the plate on the
truss support beam.
The substitute machine is qualified by certificate body and meeting
code EN115 requirement. The method of machine fixation with adapter
plate is verified by calculation and the safety factor is bigger
than 5.

We provide two different types of gearbox used for driving machine
replacement. The first is the worm gearbox machine and the
alternative type is high efficiency helical gearbox from OMS
company from Germany. The machine motor is made in China and the
motor energy efficiency level IE2 is standard configuration and IE3
as an option. Due to the different reduction ratio of the gearbox,
for the teeth number of sprocket on the new machine output shaft,
our engineer will figure out for the customer based on the data in
the original escalator so that the escalator operating speed will
keep running at 0.5m/s.

The machine dismantles and installation by using the following
tools:
• Standard service tool (hammer, screwdrivers, wrench set)
• Magnetic drill
• Gantry hanger
Use a gantry fixture to lift out the original machine and load the
new machine into the machine room. The installation process is
simple and efficient.
