What is Mining Drill Bit consists of?
- A Mining Drill Bit consists of a bit body with three moveable conical rollers
equipped with cemented carbide inserts.
- The idea is the crush the rock by rolling the inserts against the
rock with appropriate rotation speed and feed force.
- Carbide inserts are distributed over the three rollers in such a
manner that the entire bottom of the hole is worked on when the
drill bit is rotated.
- Roller bits for hard and abrasive rock generally have spherical
cemented carbide inserts closely spaced.
- Roller bits for softer rock may have the chisel and conical carbide
teeth or quality milled steel teeth as the cutters.
- Three types of cemented carbide inserts are used for roller type
bits being Chisel, Conical, and Hemispherical.
- A roller bit will utilize nozzles from which the compressed air
escapes to lift the cuttings from the bottom of the hole.
IADC745 Is For Drilling Hard to Very-Hard Formation
The hard formation TCI tricone bits features robust chisel tungsten
carbide inserts on the heel row and conical on the inner rows.
This design provides a fast drilling rate and added cutting
structure durability in medium to medium hard formations.
The HSN rubber O-ring provides adequate sealing for bearing
durability.
Application : For use in abrasive consolidated formations with compressive
strength above 400 Mpa such as taconite, quartzite and banded iron
formations
Cutting structure: These bits are characterized by closely spaced conical or
spherical inserts with medium to low projection. This configuration
promotes good penetration rates in hard, consolidated and very
abrasive formations. Smaller carbide inserts are provided on the
gage and inner rows or hard metal is deposited in the nose area to
contain shell erosion and improve performance.
- Compression Strength: 60,000 – 100,000 psi
- Drilling Speeds: 50 – 90 rpm

- Weight on Bit (WOB): 4,000 – 7,500 lbs/in of bit diamete
