Copper-clad steel is composed of a steel core and a copper clad
layer. It uses copper to uniformly coat the surface of the steel
core. This type of material is widely used to create items like
copper-clad steel bars, tapes, and wire. There are two types of
copper-clad steel based on the production process used. The types
are: continuous casting copper-clad steel and electroplating
copper-clad steel.
Continuous casting copper-clad steel is produced in molten form and
then passed through a die. This causes the molten steel to form
into a solid, continuous shape. Copper is then deposited in layers
on the steel. This process is advantageous because of its speed and
cost-efficiency, while still providing superior quality and
performance.
The other type of copper-clad steel is electroplating copper-clad
steel. This procedure begins with a steel core, which is plated
with a copper solution. An electric current is applied between the
steel core and an electrolytic bath containing copper ions. The
copper ions create a layer of copper on the steel core. This is
also an effective and efficient way to produce copper-clad steel.
