Product Description

Heavy Duty Magnesium Aluminum Silicate Adsorbent Acidic or Alkaline Environment Stability

Product Introduction:

This high-purity, synthetic colloidal clay (exemplified by Laponite® grades) is engineered for superior rheological performance. As a fine, white, odorless powder, it delivers exceptional clarity and forms robust, thixotropic gels in water at low concentrations (1–3% w/w). Its unique nanostructure – composed of disc-shaped particles (~25–30 nm diameter, 1 nm thickness) – provides an ultra-high surface area (>300 m²/g) and efficient cation exchange capacity (50–65 meq/100g).

Critical Distinctions from Natural Magnesium Aluminum Silicate (CAS 1344-00-9):

  1. Synthetic & Pure: Engineered for consistent composition and performance. Very low levels of impurities like Al, Fe.

  2. Nanoparticle Size: Much smaller particle size (nanodiscs) leading to higher surface area.

  3. Gel Formation: Forms clear, thixotropic gels in deionized water at very low concentrations (often 1-2%), unlike natural clays which form opaque dispersions.

  4. Composition: Contains significant Lithium and Sodium as integral parts of its structure. Lower Al content.

  5. Higher Viscosity/Gel Strength: Significantly more efficient rheology modifier per unit weight.

  6. pH: Typically higher pH dispersion (alkaline) compared to natural smectites.

  7. Clarity: Forms clear/translucent gels/dispersions, essential for applications where appearance matters.
