Functional Description

The DS1286 operates as a complete timekeeping solution with 64 individually addressable 8-bit registers accessible via parallel interface. The intelligent control circuitry automatically detects VCC status and write-protects memory when voltage falls below tolerance levels. All registers can be read or written similarly to byte-wide static RAM.

Power Management

When VCC exceeds 4.5V, the device operates normally. If VCC decays below approximately 3.0V, the internal lithium energy source automatically engages to maintain clock, timer, and data functionality for over 10 years without external power.
