CysC overview
Cysteinase proteinase inhibitor (CPI) was named cystatin C. Circulation of Cystatin C can only be removed by glomerular filtration (an endogenous marker that reflects changes in the glomerular filtration rate) and reabsorbed by the urethral duct near the stomach curve, but is then completely metabolized and broken down. It's not reabsorbed, it doesn't go back into the bloodstream. Therefore, the concentration of cysteine C in blood is determined by the glomerular filtration rate and is an ideal endogenous marker to reflect the change of glomerular filtration rate independent of external factors such as gender, age and diet.
