was originally founded by Nigo in 1993 as a T-Shirt brand. It was started in the Harajuku area of Shibuya in Tokyo, becoming one of the first Japanese streetwear brands. That got its name from the Japanese expression "a bathing ape in lukewarm water" which is a reference to Japanese youth being too spoiled and complacent. The Bathing Ape logo itself is inspired by the Planet of the Apes movies. Although some may think this is new to the United States, it is not as it was even rocked by Notorious BIG when he was alive. Bathing Ape is currently worn by many celebrities such as Kanye West, Jin, Pharell Williams, Jay Z and Lil Wayne.
