YOFC low OH large core fibre is ideally suited for use with both 650 nm and 850 nm active devices. Large core with 200 μm - 600 μm diameter gives a good coupling efficiency for data links or connectors. Systems with large core fibre have overall lower cost due to the loose tolerance requirement of the components. HPCF shows the best performance when it is applied to short to intermediate, a few hundreds to thousands feet, fibre optic data transmission.
Hard polymer (HP) cladding made of fluoroacrylate has a role of protective coating of glass core in addition to a role of fibre clad. HPCF is hard to break if it is bent tightly or treated roughly in the process of installation or termination. The Hard Polymer cladding provides higher tensile strength and greater resistance to moisture than the conventional claddings. These features together create a fibre well suited for a wide variety of communications, industrial applications, as well as near-IR spectroscopy.
